Dhaka:Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon emphasized the importance of religious education in cultivating an enlightened generation imbued with moral and human values. He stated that religious education is crucial for eliminating moral degradation within society.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister shared these insights during the '14th Hifzul Quran Award and Quran Festival 2026', organized by Tanzimul Ummah Foundation at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The minister advocated for a strong foundation in religious education, beginning at village maktabs, alongside general education. He underscored the need to integrate modern science and technology with religious and moral values within the education system. The government, he noted, is working to bridge the gap between madrasa and general education by including science, arts, commerce, and technical education in madrasas.
He also mentioned that the modernization of the education system started during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Moreover, the government is committed to tackling irregularities in institutions misusing Monthly Pay Order facilities and addressing the shortage of qualified Islamic studies teachers.
Maulana Zainul Abedin, former principal of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa and current Secretary of Tamirul Millat Trust, presided over the event. Maulana Abdullah Al Mamun, Principal of Tanzimul Ummah Alim Madrasa, delivered the welcome address. The event was attended by prominent figures, including former Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, and lawmakers Barrister Najibur Rahman Momen, Hafez Rashedul Islam, and Sayed Uddin Ahmad Hanzala.
During the program, 1,759 students who memorized the Holy Quran received awards and recognition for their achievements, alongside their parents, who were honored for raising their children as Hafiz-e-Quran.
