Rajshahi: Experts at a post-rally discussion here today unanimously highlighted the significance of in-taking eggs regularly for maintaining sound health.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the consumption of eggs ensures the proper functioning of major organs of the human body and addresses nutritional deficiencies. Experts emphasized that regular egg intake is crucial for maintaining sound health as it is a balanced food for all, irrespective of age, gender, and season.

“Eggs are relatively low in calories and saturated fat, and rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and other healthy nutrients,” noted experts and academics during the discussion marking World Egg Day-2025, held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event’s theme, ‘The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition’, underscores the essential role eggs play in nourishing individuals globally. As a naturally rich source of essential nutrients, eggs are considered a humble yet mighty whole food supporting health and wellbeing at every life stage, while also being an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective animal protein source.

The discussion, hosted by the Rajshahi divisional office of the Department of Livestock and supported by the World Poultry Science Association and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Council, featured notable speakers such as Dr. Ananda Kumar Adhikery, Divisional Director of the Department of Livestock, and Prof. Jalal Uddin Sarder from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Rajshahi University. District Livestock Officer Dr. Atowar Rahman presided over the meeting, with District Fisheries Officer Jahangir Alam also addressing participants.

Dr. Ananda Kumar Adhikery, during his keynote presentation, further highlighted the importance of regular egg consumption, clarifying that it has no significant link with heart diseases. He explained that most cholesterol in the body is produced by the liver in response to high intake of saturated and trans fats, rather than cholesterol from foods like eggs. Dr. Adhikery advocated for addressing existing issues in the poultry sector to enhance egg production by making poultry farming more profitable and attractive. He also dispelled misconceptions about egg consumption and heart disease, advocating regular intake, especially for pregnant women and growing children, noting economic status, low production, and misconceptions as barriers to consumption.

Prof. Jalal Uddin Sarder added that eggs are a vital protein source necessary for muscle and tissue strength and brain development. He highlighted that eggs provide essential vitamins such as D, B6, B12, and minerals like zinc, copper, and iron, with the yolk offering vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with lecithin. The discussion underscored the nutritional importance of eggs and the need to enhance the poultry sector for increased protein production. Experts reiterated the role of eggs as an affordable source of high-quality nutrition for public health and physical development.
