Dhaka: The 13th Armed Police Battalion (APBN) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) today arrested two individuals in possession of 761 grams of gold. The suspects have been identified as Md Kabir Hossain, aged 53, and Kuddus, aged 41, as per a press release issued by the APBN. Kabir Hossain was employed as a boarding bridge operator at the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were made after passengers at Glass Gate No. 3 of Terminal 1 noticed Kabir handing a small bag to Kuddus. Their suspicious behavior prompted immediate attention from those present at the scene. A subsequent search by APBN officers led to the recovery of four gold bars, collectively weighing 761 grams, from three small bags. The gold was reportedly smuggled into the country illegally, bypassing customs duties.

The APBN further revealed that the arrestees were part of a gold trafficking syndicate, operating as receivers within the airport precincts. In response to the incident, a legal case has been filed against the two men at the Airport Police Station.

Commenting on the matter, 13th APBN Operational Commander Mohammad Muzammel Haque asserted that security forces are maintaining heightened vigilance to thwart any form of trafficking activities within the airport area.
