Dhaka:The Regional Conference of Youth Asia-Pacific (RCOY APAC) 2026 commenced in Dhaka, gathering over 500 young leaders, including more than 100 international delegates from 28 countries, to address issues of climate action, justice, and resilience.
According to United News of Bangladesh, this is the first time Bangladesh is hosting the event, which will run until October 6. It brings together youth-led organizations, researchers, policymakers, innovators, and community representatives from across the Asia-Pacific region.
The conference is recognized under YOUNGO, the Official Children and Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Main sessions are scheduled at BRAC University from October 3 to 5, with the closing program at the CCDB Climate Centre on the final day.
The event sees participation from UN representatives, government officials, development partners, and academic institutions. Organizations such as Plan International, Action Aid, CARE Bangladesh, and others were present at the opening day.
Speakers at the event, including Sheikh Faridul Islam, emphasized the importance of youth ideas and innovations in preparing for climate negotiations. Saimum Parvez highlighted Bangladesh's goal to act as a bridge between ASEAN and SAARC countries to enhance regional cooperation on climate action.
The first day of the conference focused on networking among young participants who shared experiences and perspectives on climate change, justice, and local solutions. The program will continue with dialogues, workshops, exhibitions, and youth-led activities, aiming to contribute to a Regional Youth Statement that will express the priorities of young people across the region.
RCOY APAC 2026 is jointly organized by youth-led organizations throughout the Asia-Pacific, with SEECTO Bangladesh as the host-country organization. The conference seeks to strengthen regional youth collaboration and articulate shared priorities for upcoming climate conferences COY21 and COP31.
