Rajshahi: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has initiated the distribution of plastic-free eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder at no cost to its residents, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in the city. The program is designed to facilitate the hygienic storage of sacrificial meat and ensure the swift removal of waste from sacrificial animals in anticipation of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton inaugurated the program this afternoon in Ward No. 9, located in the Dargapara area. By personally handing over eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder to the residents, he formally launched the initiative. Following the inauguration, Riton continued to distribute these items by going door to door in the Dargapara area.
The initiative aims to provide each of the 82,000 Muslim families residing in the Rajshahi metropolis with three eco-friendly bags for the hygienic storage of sacrificial meat. During the launch, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton highlighted the biodegradable nature of these bags, which will decompose into the soil. He emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it is a step toward making Rajshahi a polythene-free city in the future.
RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton further underscored the importance of collective effort in maintaining a clean city following Eid. He urged residents to ensure a clean, odor-free, and hygienic environment by promptly removing post-sacrifice waste and using an adequate amount of bleaching powder after cleaning animal blood and waste.
RCC's Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Mamun expressed optimism about the initiative, stating that it is a first for RCC. He conveyed hope for its success with the cooperation of everyone involved, emphasizing that city residents will benefit from this endeavor.
