Rangpur: Rangpur-1 BNP candidate Mukarram Hossain Sujan has expressed his commitment to transforming Gangachara Upazila into a model police station as part of his vision for the region’s development. Rangpur-1 parliamentary constituency, comprising Gangachara Upazila and wards 1 to 9 of Rangpur City Corporation, is home to 3,71,970 voters, including 1,86,337 male voters, 1,85,629 female voters, and 2 third-gender voters. The constituency also has 3,245 postal voters and 139 polling centres.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, six candidates are contesting in the parliamentary elections in Rangpur-1, with Rangpur Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan having assigned party symbols to each. The candidates include Jatiya Party’s Barrister Manjum Ali, BNP’s Mukarram Hossain Sujan, and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Raihan Siraji, among others.
In a recent interview, Sujan laid out his election promises, which include creating employment opportunities by building mills and upgrading the Gangachara Upazila Health Complex into a 100-bed hospital. He also plans to construct a Teesta protection dam, develop infrastructure along the Teesta banks, and establish a picnic spot.
Sujan emphasized the importance of adhering to the Election Commission’s code of conduct, instructing party leaders and workers to avoid violence and intimidation. He expressed his belief in the significance of the July Charter referendum, urging voters to exercise their rights and ensure that the people’s mandate is reflected in the election outcomes.
In anticipation of the upcoming national elections, Sujan voiced his expectations for a fair and impartial process, highlighting the need for equal opportunities for all political parties and an impartial role by the Election Commission.
