Dhaka: Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today predicted rain or thundershowers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind in different parts of the country for the next 120 hours, commencing from 9am. “Rain or thundershowers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions with hail at isolated places,” said a BMD bulletin. Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere in the country, the release added.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over Khulna division and may fall by 1-3 degrees Celsius elsewhere in the country. Night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged nationwide. A severe heatwave is currently sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Rajbari, Khulna, Chuadanga, Meherpur, and Jashore. A mild to moderate heatwave is affecting the Dhaka, Chattogram, and Barishal divisions, including other parts of the Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, and Sherpur, though it may abate in some areas.
The highest temperature recorded on Sunday was 41.8 degrees Celsius at Chuadanga in Khulna division, while the lowest temperature today was 19.0 degrees Celsius at Rangamati in Chattogram division. The sun is set to set today at 6:33pm and rise at 5:17am tomorrow in the capital.
