Dhaka: Bangladesh Railways secretary Md Fahimul Islam today visited the country’s main rail hub Kamalapur Rail station ahead of Eid ul Adha and outlined the overall security measures and preparation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Fahimul Islam emphasized the extensive security and management measures that have been implemented to ensure safe and smooth train travel during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays. There is a particular focus on preventing passengers from traveling on train rooftops and without tickets. Speaking to the media, he highlighted the collaboration with law enforcement agencies and Railway Police who have been placed on alert to stop passengers from boarding train roofs, especially on northern region-bound trains, where such tendencies have been observed in previous years.
Islam pointed out that rooftop travel poses serious risks to both railway operations and passengers’ lives. To combat this, mobile courts and vigilance teams have been deployed at Kamalapur, Airport Railway Station, and other major stations to monitor the situation and take immediate action if necessary. Addressing the issue of overcrowding at stations, he mentioned the introduction of a strengthened three-tier security system designed to prevent ticketless passengers from entering stations, which often creates difficulties for genuine ticket holders.
He further explained that the government has allowed 25 percent standing tickets, considering the huge Eid travel demand that exceeds the railway’s carrying capacity during peak travel days. To maintain order at Kamalapur Railway Station, additional police forces have been deployed in coordination with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Security measures have also been strengthened to prevent snatching and other crimes around the stations.
Furthermore, Islam announced the deployment of 100 APBN personnel alongside regular railway security forces and encouraged passengers to report any irregularities through the railway hotline-131.
