Mymensingh: Traditional old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society kept their final hope of the Bashundhara Group Federation Cup football alive when they beat Brothers Union Club by 2-1 goals in the emanation match held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fate of the day’s match was decided in extra time after the regulation period ended in a 1-1 draw. In the proceedings, Nigerian forward Mfon Sunday Udoh put Brothers Union Club ahead in the 35th minute, while after the breather, Ghanaian forward Samuel Boateng restored parity for Rahmatganj in the 63rd minute of the match.
As both teams failed to break the deadlock in regulation time, the match eventually rolled into extra time to decide the result. Gambian midfielder Solomon King scored the winning goal for Rahmatganj in the 100th minute of the match.
The day’s win means Rahmatganj will now face defending champions Bashundhara Kings in the second qualifier scheduled to be held on April 15. With the defeat, Brothers Union Club has been eliminated from the tournament race.
