Narayanganj: Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi, a notable name in domestic cricket, is setting his sights on representing the Bangladesh national cricket team in the future. Rabbi, who has become a key player in the Bangladesh 'A' team, has shown remarkable promise as a spinning all-rounder.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rabbi's journey in cricket began at the tender age of six, inspired by his elder brother Mehedi, also a cricketer. Rabbi's early days on the field with his brother marked the start of a promising career that has seen him rise through the ranks from local fields in Narayanganj to the international stage. He made his international debut in the Top End T20 series in Australia and notably led the Bangladesh team to victory in the 2023 Youth Asia Cup.
In a revealing interview with BSS, Rabbi shared insights into his cricketing journey and the inspirations that fueled his ambitions. He recounted how his brother's encouragement and the nurturing environment of the Claymon Cricket Academy in Narayanganj were pivotal in his development as a cricketer.
Despite personal hardships, including the loss of his father in 2020, Rabbi remained steadfast in his pursuit of cricket. His elder brothers played a crucial role in ensuring he stayed focused on his dream, despite the temptation to abandon sports for familial responsibilities.
Rabbi, currently a second-year student at Sonargaon College, acknowledges the sacrifices of his family and expresses a deep desire to make them proud by playing for the national team. He cites all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as his cricketing idol, whose career has been a source of motivation.
Jahangir Alam, the batting coach of the U-15 team, highlighted Rabbi's consistent performance and dedication to the sport from a young age. He remains optimistic about Rabbi's potential to join the national team in the near future.
