Dhaka: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman has announced that law enforcement agencies do not foresee any risk during the upcoming 13th national parliament election and referendum scheduled for tomorrow.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shahidur Rahman emphasized the implementation of strict measures against individuals attempting to create disruption or unlawfully reject the election results. During a briefing at Rajdhani High School at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar polling center, he addressed potential risks, stating that risks primarily concern those who aim to disrupt the voting process.
He elaborated that individuals planning to disrupt the election, cast fake votes, steal ballot boxes, or attack polling centers will likely face significant risks. He further warned that any attempts to create unrest by refusing to accept the election results would be met with firm action.
In terms of potential militant threats, Shahidur Rahman mentioned that while authorities do not currently see any specific threats, they remain vigilant. Addressing concerns about gatherings of political party workers in residential areas, he assured that the RAB is closely monitoring the situation.
He stated that voters or outsiders are not allowed in specific areas without valid reasons for a designated period, and any presence of outsiders in suspected places will be addressed appropriately. Shahidur Rahman highlighted the deployment of maximum law enforcement forces and the enhancement of logistic capacities compared to previous times.
He mentioned that CCTV cameras have been installed in almost every center and that police have access to approximately 25,700 body cameras, drones, dog squads, bomb disposal units, and helicopters on standby. Shahidur Rahman expressed optimism about the election, suggesting it may proceed better than expected.
He concluded by noting that if disorder occurs at any polling station and a suitable voting environment cannot be maintained, voting may be suspended in that center.
