Quality Production and Value Addition Crucial for Enhancing Bangladesh’s Shrimp and Fisheries Exports

Khulna: Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md Delwar Hossain has emphasized the importance of quality production, value addition, and coordinated efforts to bolster Bangladesh's shrimp and fisheries sector and enhance its competitiveness in international markets. He articulated these views during a view-exchange meeting with leaders from the Khulna region of the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) held at Shrimp Tower in the city on Friday evening.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in collaboration with the Khulna regional chapter of BFFEA. Hossain highlighted the need for stronger coordination among government agencies, private-sector stakeholders, shrimp farmers, traders, and exporters to sustainably develop the sector and expand exports.

The discussions at the meeting focused on shrimp and fish production and processing, quality assurance, and measures to ensure the supply of safe and hygienic fish in the domestic market. Speakers stressed the necessity of enhancing product quality, curbing unscrupulous trading practices, and restoring discipline in production and supply chains. Additionally, they called for increasing the production and export of value-added shrimp products to establish Bangladesh as a premium supplier in global markets.

Participants also deliberated on strategies to expand shrimp farming in the Khulna region, raise productivity, and promote environmentally friendly and quality cultivation practices. They emphasized the importance of providing farmers with training and technical support to adopt modern and sustainable farming methods.

The meeting was addressed by notable figures, including Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr Md Khaled Konok, Chief Scientific Officer Dr Moin Uddin Ahmed, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abu Sayed Md Monzur Alam, and Director of the Khulna Divisional Fisheries Department Md Zahangir Alam, who participated as special guests.

BFFEA Acting President Md Tariqul Islam Zaheer presided over the meeting. The speakers underscored that stronger cooperation between the government and the private sector is essential to making Bangladesh's shrimp industry more sustainable, prosperous, and competitive in global markets.
