Gazipur: A septuagenarian man was hacked to death allegedly by his son-in-law at his shop in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Majid Morol, 70, of Jamalpur Madhyapara area.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Mozammel Hossain, alias Muza Sarker, 35, son of the late Noab Ali Sarker of Uttar Jamalpur Sarkarpara area and son-in-law of the deceased, surrendered to the police station on Saturday. ASI Shafik of Kaliganj Police Station confirmed the surrender.
Police reported that Mozammel had been involved in a long-running dispute with his wife, Shahanaz Begum, who is the daughter of Majid Morol. Shahanaz left her husband's home multiple times, returning to her father's house due to allegations of drug abuse, physical assault, and domestic violence. She had been residing with her father at the time of the incident.
An altercation erupted between Mozammel and Majid concerning Mozammel's alleged abuse of Shahanaz. During the altercation, Mozammel went to Majid's banana shop in Jamalpur Kalapatti area around 4 pm on Friday, carrying an axe inside a trolley bag. He subsequently stabbed Majid with the axe, inflicting fatal injuries.
Majid was taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead. Md Zakir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station, stated that police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
