Kushtia: Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) Secretary and founding convener of the Islamic University Journalists’ Association (IUJA), Dr. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, engaged in a discussion with members of the association at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia. The event took place at the university’s Press Corner, where Dr. Sanwar shared his insights and experiences with the attendees.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the program was marked by the presence of Kushtia District Executive Magistrate Zilkad Hossain, IUJA General Secretary Juel Rana, and other members of the organization. Dr. Sanwar was warmly welcomed with flowers and was presented with a university diary, calendar, and the association’s magazine ‘Lubdhok’ as tokens of appreciation.
During the session, Dr. Sanwar addressed various questions from the association members, providing insights into his journalism experiences and discussing the history of Islamic University. He also touched upon the campus relocation movement and offered career guidance, alongside addressing several contemporary issues.
Dr. Sanwar highlighted the lack of an effective educational model in Bangladesh that integrates modern and Islamic education. He pointed out that the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has successfully established such an integrated structure, which could serve as a model for Bangladesh. He noted that the absence of this model in Bangladesh results in Islamic and general education continuing in separate streams without meaningful interaction.
Furthermore, Dr. Sanwar discussed the global trend of education systems leaning towards secularism and the perception of Western philosophy and knowledge systems as superior. He described this as a ‘philosophical challenge’ that needs to be addressed.
