Uttara:A group of protesters gathered outside the residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, demanding his immediate arrest. The demonstration, organized by 'Anti-Autocracy General People,' took place on Monday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the protesters staged a sit-in on the road in front of Quader's house around 11 am, chanting various slogans. Although they could not enter the residence, they vandalized its windowpanes before leaving the scene just before police arrived.
Officer-in-Charge of Uttara West Police Station, Khalid Mansur, stated that police were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the demonstration. Upon arrival, officers found no protesters but observed the damage to the house's windowpanes.
The protesters accused GM Quader of betraying those killed in the July Uprising and maintaining secret contacts with ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India. A banner displayed during the protest included a portrait of Quader depicted as imprisoned, with demands for his arrest and declarations against fascism.
They further claimed that the Jatiya Party had politically legitimized the Awami League government by participating in the last three national elections. The protesters insisted that no ally of what they termed as fascism should be allowed political rehabilitation in a 'new Bangladesh' and called on the government to bring Quader to justice without delay.
