Prohibitory orders imposed in Sirajganj

Authorities on Thursday imposed prohibitory orders in the district’s Belkuchi upazila, with two rival factions of the ruling Awami League’s local unit calling for human chains at Chala bus stand at the same time.

The orders under Section 144 of CrPC, which prohibit the gathering of four or more people, are effective 6am on Thursday, as per the instructions of upazila nirbahi officer and executive magistrate Anisur Rahman, police said.

Union Parishad Forum called for a human chain to protest against an alleged attack on Bhangabari union chairman Zahurul Islam and a panel chairman, Abdul Kader Talukdar, at Majemer Dhal in the municipality area on June 5.

A complaint was lodged against seven people, including Akter Hamid, president of the municipality unit Chhatra League in this connection, said Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Belkuchi police station.

The Chhatra League also called for a counter human chain in front of Chala bus stand at the same time.

“To maintain law and order in the area, the local administration slapped the prohibitory orders which will remain in force until further notice,” a police officer said.
