Doha: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today urged the global leaders not to leave the youth behind but explore their potential, informing them that the young people are the key drivers of positive changes in Bangladesh. He made the call while delivering his keynote speech on ‘Exploring the role of social business, financial inclusion, and microfinance in fostering sustainable development and economic opportunities for marginalised communities’ at Earthana Summit, organised by Qatar Foundation, in Doha, Qatar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus expressed his honor in addressing the gathering on the globally significant issue of the role of social business, financial inclusion, and microfinance in fostering sustainable development and economic opportunities for marginalised communities. He emphasized the importance of involving the youth, who are set to inherit the planet, noting the transformational power of civic awakening among the youth for inclusion and empowerment.
The Chief Adviser highlighted the potential of youth, driven by purpose and awareness, to overcome oppression and shape a future rooted in democracy, equality, and non-discrimination. He referenced the historic, youth-led mass uprising in Bangladesh in July 2024, which started as a protest against discrimination and evolved into a nationwide call for justice, good governance, and accountability. This movement, led by Bangladeshi youth, took place both on the streets and online, signifying a generational demand for dignity, transparency, and inclusive governance.
Prof Yunus described the revolution as a testament to the transformative power of young people in shaping the future. He noted that in Bangladesh, young people are driving positive changes towards inclusivity. He also pointed out that this spirit is not limited to Bangladesh, as young people worldwide are challenging inequality and advocating for a fairer, more inclusive society.
Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, and Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of the Qatar Foundation, were present at the summit, among other global leaders.
