Prof Areef, Dr Asaduzzaman new president, general secretary of BSCCM

The Bangladesh Society of Critical Care Medicine (BSCCM) has recently formed a new executive committee for 2022-2024 with Professor ASM Areef Ahsan as its President and Dr Muhammad Asaduzzaman as general secretary.

Areef Ahsan is a professor and head of the Department of Critical Care Medicine (CCM) in BIRDEM General Hospital while Dr Asaduzzaman is an assistant professor and Head of the Department of the CCM in Kuwait Bangladesh friendship Government Hospital.

The new committee will work from June 2022, consisting of post graduate doctors in Critical Care Medicine (CCM), said a press release on Tuesday.

Being the pioneer of CCM Professor Mohammad Omar Faruq is the founder president of the BSCCM.

In medical profession the CCM has started its postgraduate course as Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine & Metabolism (BIRDEM) and the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) since 2008. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), DMC & BIRDEM are the affiliated institutions.

Prof Areef Ahsan is the first legendary degree holder in MD CCM in Bangladesh in 2013.

A specialist doctor in MD in CCM manages critically ill patients who are in imminent risk of death in any intensive care unit (ICU). Such doctors have played a pivotal role in the pandemic COVID of Bangladesh since March’ 2020. Their success and fame precedes their name for managing critically ill patients during this pandemic.

This new committee of BSCCM has a total of 37 executive post of graduate doctors including founder president, president, president-elect, six vice presidents, general secretary, treasurer, 17 secretaries and 10 executive members.
