Sylhet: Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury today announced that the ‘Probashi Card’ (Expatriate Card) for Bangladeshi workers will be launched very soon, aligning with the government’s election manifesto. The initiative aims to streamline the processes and benefits available to Bangladeshi expatriates.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister also highlighted efforts to regularize the status of approximately 25,000 undocumented Bangladeshis currently living in Spain. This move is part of a broader strategy to safeguard the interests of Bangladeshi workers abroad.
“Under our 180-day priority programme, following the guidelines set by our Prime Minister, we are taking measures to reopen closed labour markets – particularly in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and other countries where labour migration has been suspended,” stated Ariful Haque. He made these remarks at a press briefing held at Sylhet Circuit House, as detailed in a PID handout.
In related news, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir assured that the market for daily essential commodities remains stable and expressed optimism about maintaining this stability in the future.
Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury addressed regional flooding issues, attributing them primarily to the influx of floodwaters from across the border. “Keeping this area flood-free is a challenge for us, but it is a challenge we will be able to meet,” he asserted.
Earlier, the ministers engaged in discussions with officials from various government departments in Sylhet to review the district’s ongoing development activities.
