Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman recently shared a childhood memory of discovering a fresh Royal Bengal Tiger pugmark beside a pond in the Sundarbans. This recollection came during a special session at Bangladesh Shishu Academy, celebrating Children's Rights Day 2026 and the academy's 50th anniversary, where he was addressing questions from children.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman recounted that during a family trip with his parents and younger brother, they visited a place called Hiron Point in the Sundarbans, where local residents informed them a tiger had visited the previous night. He vividly remembered seeing the tiger's fresh pugmark in the mud.

During the session, when asked about his dreams as a child, Rahman admitted he had no specific ambitions and just thought about buying toys when he grew up. On the topic of education and the future of children, he emphasized the importance of allowing kids to develop their abilities alongside their studies, encouraging engagement in activities like music, dance, sports, and Quranic recitation.

Rahman advised children to use technology for educational purposes rather than spending excessive time on social media. He also humorously noted that some of the children's questions seemed crafted by adults and encouraged them to speak freely.

Discussing educational facilities, Rahman mentioned plans to create open spaces for children's play in every union or upazila, acknowledging the high cost of building indoor stadiums. He also expressed a desire to enhance children's participation in cultural and international events, noting the success of Bangladeshi children in various competitions.

Addressing the issue of underprivileged children, Rahman acknowledged the challenge but assured that the government is working to extend educational and cultural facilities to them. He also discussed the expansion of facilities for children with disabilities, citing ongoing efforts to develop the necessary infrastructure and resources.

When asked if he consulted children for important decisions, Rahman stated he occasionally discusses matters with his daughter, who provides insights into the perspectives of younger generations. He concluded with an inspiring message, urging children to work together to build a better Bangladesh, emphasizing their role as the future of the nation.

The session saw participation from children across various regions, including Dhaka, Mymensingh, Netrakona, and others. The Prime Minister's wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain also attended the event.
