Sylhet: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Sylhet this morning on a daylong tour to join several programmes, including the inauguration of a canal excavation and the Notun Kuri Sports. Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman stated that Tarique Rahman, accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, landed at Osmani International Airport around 10:05 am on a domestic flight. Earlier, the premier reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at approximately 9:15 am from his Gulshan residence. This marks his first official visit to Sylhet since assuming office as Prime Minister.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman will commence his activities by offering ziarats at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R). Subsequently, he will attend a foundation laying ceremony for a project initiated by Sylhet City Corporation aimed at resolving the city's waterlogging issues. This event is scheduled to occur at Chandni Ghat adjacent to Sylhet Circuit House, where he will also address a civic rally.
The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate a re-excavation programme of the Baisha River located in Kashipur Union under Sylhet Sadar Upazila around noon. Following this, he will offer Zuhr prayers and have lunch at the Circuit House.
In the afternoon, Tarique Rahman will inaugurate "Notun Kuri Sports 2026" at Sylhet Stadium at 3 pm. This initiative is designed to discover sports talent among children and teenagers at the district level and was part of BNP's election pledges. Additionally, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a party meeting at the Shilpakala Academy in Sylhet at 5 pm. He will return to Dhaka later that night.
On January 21, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman officially launched his campaign for the 13th National Parliamentary Election from Sylhet, where he delivered a speech at the Government Alia Madrasa ground.
