Cumilla: Detectives arrested three people, including the prime accused, from different parts of the district in connection with the double murder in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla. The arrestees were identified as Mostak Ahmed Abu Mia, his wife Hanufa Begum, and their adopted daughter Iti.
According to United News of Bangladesh, acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police arrested Hanufa and Iti from the Badsha Mia Bazar area of Cumilla city, as stated by Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfur Rahman at a press briefing held at the police conference room. Based on information provided by them, police later conducted a drive and arrested Abu Mia from a train at Akhaura Railway Station in Brahmanbaria.
Khaleda Akter and her brother Mostak Ahmed Abu Mia's families had been at loggerheads over a piece of land for a long time, said police. On Monday, Abu Mia allegedly swooped on Khaleda's house and hacked Khaleda and her nephew Manzurul Alam Tutu to death with a machete.
Nasim Haider Sujon, a relative of the victims, filed a murder case with Muradnagar Police Station against the three accused. The arrestees admitted their involvement in the killings during preliminary interrogation, ASP Lutfur Rahman said. Police also recovered the weapons used in the murders based on information provided by the arrestees.
