Dhaka: President Mohammed Shahabuddin has urged the well-off people to stand beside the poor and underprivileged people. 'The auspicious journey of building a just, democratic, humane and self-reliant Bangladesh has been started. Let us take pledge to join the journey together on this auspicious occasion of Eid,' he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President made these remarks during a brief speech while exchanging Eid greetings with a cross-section of people at Bangabhaban. He extended his greetings to the countrymen and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, emphasizing that Islam's principles of peace, welfare, human values, harmony, mutual coexistence, and compassion hold significant importance in the current global context.
The President highlighted that this year's Eid is being celebrated amid global turmoil, where many regions are affected by conflicts resulting in the loss of innocent lives. He stressed the moral responsibility of individuals to support the helpless and expressed a desire for an end to war, conflict, and revenge, advocating for peace and comfort globally.
Shahabuddin noted the unique nature of Eid as a festival of social harmony, urging everyone to share its joy with neighbors, relatives, friends, and acquaintances. He also prayed for the happiness, peace, welfare, and continued progress of Bangladesh, the Muslim Ummah, and the global community.
Approximately 10,000 distinguished guests were invited to the Bangabhaban for the occasion. Among those accompanying the President were his wife, Dr. Rebeka Sultana, family members, and concerned secretaries. The event was attended by the Chief Justice, cabinet members, advisers to the prime minister, foreign diplomats, Supreme Court judges, academics, freedom fighters, editors, senior journalists, writers, artists, political party leaders, business community leaders, and high-ranking civil and military officials. Guests were entertained with traditional food items.
