Dhaka: President Mohammed Shahabuddin today called upon all to work together for building a just, democratic, non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh imbued with the ideals and values of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. The Head of the State made the call in a message issued on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President emphasized the importance of unity, compassion, and justice, urging citizens to embrace the spirit of Eid-ul-Azha. He encouraged people to uphold the festival’s values in their hearts, fostering unity over division, compassion over violence, and equality over discrimination. In a video message recorded at Bangabhaban on the morning of Eid, the President conveyed his heartfelt greetings and ‘Eid Mubarak’ to the countrymen and the global Muslim community.
President Shahabuddin highlighted Eid-ul-Azha’s role in promoting sacrifice, fraternity, harmony, and social solidarity. He stressed the festival’s universal message of sacrificing hatred, arrogance, and negative instincts within oneself. Additionally, he urged people to share the joy of Eid with the poor, underprivileged, relatives, and neighbors.
The President also appealed to the affluent section of society to support the helpless and disadvantaged by ensuring their rightful entitlements. Emphasising environmental awareness and public health protection, he called for cooperation with authorities in the quick disposal of sacrificial waste and maintaining cleanliness.
Later at noon, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and his spouse Dr Rebecca Sultana exchanged Eid greetings at Bangabhaban with people from different walks of life. Cabinet members, the Chief Election Commissioner, judges, Cabinet Secretary, chiefs of the armed forces, ambassadors, Bangladesh Bank Governor, Inspector General of Police, and secretaries to the President’s Office attended the reception at Durbar Hall.
Distinguished personalities, senior politicians, writers, journalists, teachers, intellectuals, and high-ranking civil and military officials also joined the programme. Earlier, at around 7:30am, the President offered Eid prayers at the National Eidgah and participated in the munajat. He exchanged Eid greetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, council of advisers, and greeted the devotees present.
