Patuakhali:A seven-month pregnant woman named Tania Begum suffered a miscarriage after allegedly being kicked in the abdomen on her way to a hospital in Kalapara upazila on Saturday night.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident took place around 800 pm at Munshi Bari Stand in Chakamaia union. Tania, her husband Habib Pahlan, an auto-rickshaw driver, and her father Dulal Howlader were physically assaulted during the attack. Locals reported that Habib was taking his wife and father-in-law to a hospital from Betmor village when they encountered a group of local youths blocking the road.
The group, identified as Sohag, 20, Mamun, and Shawon Sikdar, 22, began an altercation when Habib asked them to move. The youths then assaulted Habib and Dulal. As Tania tried to protect her husband and father, she was kicked in the abdomen. The family was reportedly detained by the youths for about one and a half hours until locals intervened and took them to the hospital.
Tania suffered a miscarriage at the hospital's emergency department entrance, and the baby died shortly after. Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam stated that a police team was dispatched to the scene, and legal action will follow once a written complaint is filed.
