Dhaka: The Power Division is set to sign memoranda of understanding (MoU) with five ministries, divisions, and departments tomorrow to install rooftop solar power systems, an official statement revealed today. This initiative is a part of the government's plan to enhance the renewable energy footprint in the country.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the energy ministry's statement specified that the primary and mass education ministry, health services division, secondary and higher education division, technical and madrasah education division, and women and family welfare division will be part of the agreement. The signing ceremony will take place at Bidyut Bhaban.

The agreement will facilitate the implementation of the 'National Rooftop Solar Programme Initiative 'B',' which aims to cover educational institutions and health facilities. Dr. Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, will chair the event.

The National Rooftop Solar Programme Initiatives intend to boost the share of renewable energy in the country's power generation through an OPEX model. This model allows institutions to make subscription-like payments for solar services, eliminating the need for upfront installation costs.

The statement further indicated that the introduction of these solar systems is expected to significantly reduce electricity bills for the participating organizations.
