Poor people urged to receive legal aid services free of cost: Speakers

Speakers at a function urged the poor and distressed people of the society to receive legal aid services free of cost whatever and whenever they need.

"Many poor people cannot afford to go to the city or town and file a case in institutional court to get fair justice. Considering the interest of the poor, the present government introduced legal aid services for the poor and disadvantaged people of the society free of cost for protecting their fundamental rights", they said.

They made the comments while addressing an institutional mass hearing on legal aid service at Adampur, a tribal (santal) settlement area under Katabari union of Gobindaganj upazila in the district on Saturday afternoon.

District and Sessions Judge Md. Abul Mansur Miah addressed the function as the chief guest and police super Md. Kamal Hossain spoke at the event as the special guest.

Presided over by UNO Md. Arif Hossain, the function was also addressed, among others, by chief judicial magistrate Opendranath Das, assistant judge Obaidul Haque Rumi, president of Gaibandha Bar Association Advocate

Faruque Ahmed Prince, general secretary of Gobindaganj Bar Association Advocate Bhabesh Chandra Sarker, local union parishad chairman Jobaer Hasan Shafik Mahmud Golap, indigenous leaders Philimon Baske and Amili Hembrom.

The speakers underscored the need for popularizing the legal aid services to the distressed and poor people including the indigenous ones of the district to build a better society.

Terming the legal aid services as the great initiative of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, district and sessions judge Md. Abul Mansur Miah urged the poor to take the legal aid services free of cost to get the fair judgment of the cases.

He also called upon the concerned to be serious to popularize the legal aid services among the poor and distressed people of the society to attain the cherished goals of the legal aid services.

Earlier, the district and sessions judge answered the questions raised by the participants about legal aid services.
