Dhaka: Secretary of Shushashoner Janno Nagarik (SHUJAN), Badiul Alam Majumder, emphasized the necessity for election manifestos to include a clear commitment to implement the July National Charter and transparently state each political party’s position on the proposed referendum. He delivered these remarks during a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club, ahead of the upcoming 13th general elections scheduled for February 12.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Majumder described election manifestos as critical documents where political parties outline their views and commitments to the public. He stressed that these must be specific and actionable. Key demands highlighted include ensuring accountability within state machinery and law enforcement to prevent enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

Majumder stressed the importance of institutionalizing democratic bodies, noting that a democratic state relies on robust, independent, and effective institutions. He also called for structural reforms to restore constitutional balance between governmental branches and the powers of the President and Prime Minister.

He declared the necessity for Bangladesh to transition to and institutionalize democracy through the upcoming election, emphasizing the need for democratic and transparent political parties. Majumder further advocated for a strong institutional fight against corruption, demanding the Anti-Corruption Commission be established as a constitutional body.

Additionally, Majumder urged political parties to focus on building a merit-based society by investing in youth, technology, quality education, and healthcare, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talents for the country’s future.

The press conference was also attended by prominent individuals including Dr. AKM Waresul Karim, Syed Abu Naser Bakhtiar Ahmed, Ekram Hossain, and Dilip Kumar Sarkar.
