Rangpur: Leaders of different political parties agreed in a meeting to cooperate with Highway Police in providing overall security to passengers and vehicles moving on the highway, as well as to life and property. They made the commitment in the views-exchange meeting held at the meeting room of the Highway Police of Rangpur region with its newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tariqul Islam in the chair.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by prominent leaders including Convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Md Shamsuzzaman Samu, Organizing Secretary of Zia Parishad Central Committee Dr. Md. Rokunuzzaman, Secretary of Rangpur district Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Md Enamul Haque, President of Rangpur district Islami Andolon Bangladesh A Rahman Quasemi, Maolana Zubayer of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, and President of Rangpur district Khelafat-Majlish Qari Ataul Haque. Assistant Superintendent of Police for Rangpur Highway Police Circle Hareswar Roy and other police
officials were also present during the meeting.
During the discussions, political leaders strongly demanded the banning of three-wheelers from the highway, restrictions on motorcycles without driving licenses, registration, and helmets, and urged the police to be more active in preventing the harassment of the Hijra community on the roads. The newly appointed Highway Police SP, Mohammad Tariqul Islam, listened to their concerns and instructed his officials to implement necessary measures to address these issues.
Apart from addressing these concerns, the SP advised all drivers to exercise caution while driving during the winter months, as road accidents tend to increase due to fog. The meeting concluded with a firm commitment from the leaders of various political parties to support the Highway Police in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of all highway users, including passengers and their properties.
