Dhaka: Police vigilance has been strengthened in the capital to maintain law and order, said Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman here today. ‘We have enhanced police vigilance in DMP areas aimed at ensuring public security and maintaining law and order,’ he said while briefing media to provide update of contemporary incidents at DMP media centre in the city’s Mintoo Road area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Talebur Rahman mentioned the DMP is always on alert to deal with any situation, including during the 11-day special security directives. He assured that any attempts to deteriorate law and order will be addressed according to the law. On the topic of the sudden alert, he clarified there is no specific reason for issuing it.
As part of the enhanced measures, DMP has conducted 471 patrol teams across 50 police stations to ensure public security. Of these, 259 teams operated at night and 212 during the day. The patrol included 212 mobile patrol teams, 20 foot patrol teams, and 27 motorcycle patrol teams. Additionally, 66 police check posts were established at strategic locations in the metropolitan area.
Talebur Rahman also reported the arrest of 186 individuals involved in various crimes across Dhaka Metropolitan City through 80 raids. Among the arrestees were a robber, five thieves, 13 drug dealers, two fraudsters, and 12 warranted accused. Seized items included 11 mobile phones, a bus, cash of Tk 13,180, and various drugs.
In the last 24 hours, 33 cases have been filed in different DMP police stations. Since January 1, 33 robbery cases, 248 mugging cases, 154 murder cases, and 1,068 theft cases have been filed, with DMP currently investigating a total of 7,812 cases.
