Dhaka: The Police Headquarters (PHQ) has issued a directive to field-level police personnel to adopt a stringent approach towards combating terrorism, extortion, and mugging. Md Akram Hossain, the Additional Inspector General (crime and operations), emphasized the importance of taking tougher legal action against these crimes during a meeting held at the Police Headquarters earlier today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting, presided over by Akram Hossain, focused on reviewing the crimes committed over the past three months, from July to September, across the country. Hossain stressed the need for enhancing the ongoing nationwide joint operation to recover illegal firearms, underscoring that those in possession of such weapons would no longer be spared. The directive also included instructions for unit chiefs to intensify intelligence vigilance nationwide, aiming to apprehend prisoners who have escaped from jails. Additionally, measures to prevent dacoity on highways were highlighted as a priority. Hossain urged all concerned to ensure the provision of services to the public, warning that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated. The meeting was attended virtually by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan, range Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and police superintendents, while DIG (operations and additionally crime management) Md Rezaul Karim and other concerned officers were present at the Police Headquarters.
