Dhaka: Bangladesh Police Handball Club and Bandarban District Sports Association (DSA) have successfully reached the semifinals of the 35th National Men’s Handball competition, which took place at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Dhaka.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh Police advanced to the semifinals as the top team from group C. Bandarban DSA secured their semifinal spot as the champions of group D, achieving a better goal difference than Chapainawabganj DSA, despite both teams accumulating 13 points each.
Previously, defending champions Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, along with last year’s runners-up Border Guard Bangladesh, had already secured their places in the semifinals from the first phase of the competition. The upcoming semifinals will see Group A champions Bangladesh Ansar facing off against Group D champions Bandarban DSA, while Group B champions BGB will compete against Group C champions Bangladesh Police Handball Club. Both matches are scheduled for Friday (May 30) at the same venue, with the final set for May 31.
In other group phase matches, Sunamganj DSA triumphed over Bagerhat DSA with a score of 36-17, leading the first half 14-11. Narayanganj DSA defeated Bogura DSA 26-13, dominating the first half 12-5. Bangladesh Police Handball Club overwhelmed Sunamganj DSA with a decisive 44-8 victory, leading 23-6 at halftime. Bandarban DSA claimed victory over Kushtia DSA with a score of 24-20, after a narrow 11-10 lead at the half.
Further results included Panchagarh DSA defeating Narail DSA 45-20, with a strong first-half performance of 21-9. Sunamganj DSA overpowered Bagerhat DSA once more, 36-17, with a 14-11 lead at halftime, and Kushtia DSA outclassed Dinajpur DSA 37-14, having led 24-9 in the first half.
