Cumilla: Police today detained 45 individuals associated with the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the Bangladesh Awami League (AL), from Dakkhin upazila in Cumilla (Sadar) for allegedly organizing an unauthorized procession on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred in the Matiara area of the upazila during the afternoon. Law enforcement officials, along with eyewitnesses, reported that in addition to the detentions, three Hiace microbuses and two minibuses were seized at the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakkhin Model Police Station, Mohammad Rakibul Islam, informed BSS that the police acted on a tip-off, conducting a swift operation that led to the detention of the individuals involved. The verification process of the detainees’ identities is currently underway, he added.
The police have stated that appropriate legal measures will be pursued against those detained following a thorough investigation.
