Bogura: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged the people of the country to remain vigilant, alleging that ‘clandestine forces’ that do not believe in Bangladesh’s existence and independence are conspiring to create unrest by misleading the public.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman addressed a public rally organised by the BNP’s Bogura district unit at the Altafunnessa Playground. He emphasized that these forces have historically attempted to mislead the nation at different critical times, both before and after independence. ‘These clandestine forces tried to confuse people during the election using similar tactics. They have once again started spreading confusion,’ he said.
He highlighted that despite clarifications regarding the full implementation of the July National Charter, certain political parties are making misleading remarks both inside and outside Parliament. The Prime Minister recalled past instances where similar attempts were made to mislead the public, such as during the Liberation War, the 1986 election, the 1996 political scenario, and the 2008 alignment with the 1/11 regime.
Tarique Rahman, also the BNP Chairman, reiterated the role of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in proclaiming the country’s independence in 1971. He questioned the trustworthiness of those who do not believe in the country’s independence and existence, particularly in context with the July Charter.
The Prime Minister accused certain political parties of causing unrest, drawing parallels with historical incidents where personal tragedies were politicized to create chaos. He mentioned the Dinajpur Yasmin incident as an example of personal matters being used for political agitation.
Referring to a recent incident in Mymensingh, he claimed that a minor personal matter was politicized to stir unrest. He also criticized those questioning reforms and the July Charter for neglecting women’s freedom and development, pointing out pre-election remarks opposing the Family Card scheme.
Calling for unity, Tarique Rahman reminded the crowd of the electoral mandate given to BNP to implement its plans. He announced upcoming projects like the Bogura-Sirajganj rail line and efforts to export agricultural products from the northern region.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, he mentioned schemes like Family Card, Farmers’ Card, agricultural loan waivers, allowances for religious leaders, tree plantation, canal excavation, and employment opportunities. These, he noted, demonstrate the government’s commitment to its electoral promises.
The rally began around 5:30 pm, with Tarique Rahman arriving at 5:43 pm after a brief stop at the Circuit House. Following the rally, he inaugurated the new building of Bogura Press Club and the reconstruction work on Baitur Rahman Central Mosque.
