Lalpur: State Minister for Social Welfare Barrister Farzana Sharmin today said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wants to build Bangladesh as a humanitarian state, and everyone's cooperation is essential to building a new Bangladesh. She made the remarks this afternoon while distributing humanitarian assistance from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief among 400 flood-affected families living on Padma River chars in Lalpur upazila of the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister distributed 30 kilograms of rice to each of 214 families in Naoshara Sultanpur and 186 families in Diar Shankarpur, along with lentils, edible oil, sugar, chira-muri, medicines, and cash assistance. Farzana Sharmin said the government stands beside distressed people and is working to alleviate their suffering. She emphasized that the government would ensure national development by improving the living standards of disadvantaged people, adding that no one would remain deprived.
The state minister highlighted that the previous government took no effective steps to improve the lives of Padma char residents. "We want to improve their living standards by establishing educational institutions, improving communication, and constructing disaster shelters," she said. She warned that no one would be allowed to endanger char residents through terrorist activities and mentioned that coordinated measures were being taken to ensure their security.
Farzana Sharmin also stated that steps would be taken to accelerate economic activities in the promising char areas. "We want to remain beside you with government assistance during disasters and in post-disaster rehabilitation," she added.
