Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged the people to remain highly vigilant so that anti-social forces cannot rise again and no one can undermine the prevailing communal harmony in the country. He made the call while addressing a reception and honorarium distribution programme for prominent members of the Hindu community, priests, and Sebaits at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital this morning marking the Janmashtami.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister emphasized the long-standing tradition of mutual respect and harmony among people of different political affiliations, religions, and ethnicities in Bangladesh. He warned against those who attempt to create divisions in society and highlighted the past struggles of democracy-loving people against oppressive rulers.
The Prime Minister expressed that Bangladesh has embarked on a new journey of democracy and called for the rebuilding of the country's fragile economy and administration. He emphasized the importance of unity and urged people to consider themselves as Bangladeshis rather than focusing on distinctions of minority or majority.
Furthermore, he articulated the government's commitment to building a welfare state where all citizens, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity, would receive necessary support. He highlighted several government initiatives aimed at political and economic empowerment, such as the Family Card, Farmer Card, and Sports Card.
Reflecting on the teachings of Sri Krishna, the Prime Minister linked the historical context to the current societal scenario, urging the public to uphold righteousness and vanquish evil. He extended greetings for Janmashtami and the upcoming Durga Puja, encouraging peaceful celebrations and reinforcing the message of religious harmony and mutual respect among all citizens.
The event, organized by the Prime Minister's Office, was attended by various ministers, political advisers, and leaders of the Hindu community. It featured a recitation from the Gita and included a floral exchange between the Prime Minister and representatives of the Hindu community. Honorariums were distributed among priests and Sebaits, signifying the government's support for religious leaders across the country.
