Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit the family of slain child Ramisa Akter in the city's Pallabi area tonight following the Cabinet meeting. The Prime Minister is expected to leave for Ramisa's residence at Pallabi in the capital around 9:00pm after the meeting.
According to United News of Bangladesh, during the visit, he will console the bereaved family members of 8-year-old Ramisa who was killed after rape. Earlier on Thursday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that exemplary punishment would be ensured in the shortest possible time in the case.
Ramisa, a Class-II student, was brutally raped and killed allegedly by a tenant living in a neighboring flat in Pallabi on Tuesday last week. Police revealed that the suspect, Sohel Rana, allegedly lured the child into his room after she left her flat in the morning, where he then committed the heinous act.
Tragically, Ramisa's decapitated body was found under a bed, while her severed head was discovered in a bucket in the bathroom. Locals managed to detain the suspect's wife, Swapna Akter, while Sohel Rana escaped by cutting through a window grille.
The suspect was eventually arrested in Fatullah of Narayanganj on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, Sohel Rana reportedly gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court.
