Dinajpur: Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit Dinajpur tomorrow to launch a nationwide canal excavation and re-excavation programme. The initiative aims to enhance water management and irrigation facilities across Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister will arrive at Saidpur Airport from the capital city in the morning, as confirmed by Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly. Following his arrival, he will travel by road to the Balrampur Sahapara area in Kaharole upazila of Dinajpur district, where he will virtually inaugurate the programme by re-excavating a 12-kilometer canal.

In its initial phase, the programme will be rolled out across 54 districts. On the same day, various government officials, including Ministers, Advisers, the Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, State Ministers, Whips, and Members of Parliament, will participate in the inauguration events in other districts.

After the ceremony, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the Faridpur graveyard in Dinajpur district town. He will pay respects at the graves of his grandfather Md Iskander Majumder, grandmother Taiba Majumder, aunt Khurshid Jahan Haque, and other close relatives.

The visit has sparked excitement among BNP leaders, workers, activists, and residents of Dinajpur. Preparations have been finalized for the Prime Minister’s visit, which is anticipated to bolster irrigation, boost agricultural production, and generate employment opportunities for rural communities.

The canal excavation initiative is also expected to enhance surface water availability, decrease reliance on groundwater, and improve water management. These efforts are projected to mitigate the impacts of drought, floods, and water-logging in various regions of the country.
