Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Dilara Hafiz, spouse of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram. In a condolence message, the premier highlighted the significant contributions of the late Dilara Hafiz, acknowledging her as a distinguished educationist and social worker.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dilara Hafiz passed away at Singapore General Hospital at 1:29 pm (Singapore local time) today while receiving treatment. She was 78 years old. Her passing marks the loss of a respected figure in the field of education, as emphasized by Tarique Rahman, who also serves as the ruling BNP chairman.
Dilara Hafiz is survived by her husband, a son, a daughter, grandchildren, and a large number of relatives and admirers. Throughout her career, she played a pivotal role in expanding education in the country. Her service as principal of Eden Mohila College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, along with her tenure as the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, underscored her dedication to the educational sector.
