Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday provided financial assistance for the construction of a house for national women’s football team player Ritu Porna Chakma.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister handed over a cheque for the grant to Ritu Porna Chakma at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the afternoon. Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque, Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs State Minister Mir Helal Uddin, Textiles and Jute State Minister Shariful Alam, and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal were present at the programme.
The assistance is part of ongoing efforts to support the national footballer and her family. Previously, in 2025, BNP had provided support to Ritu Porna and her family during a challenging time. Following instructions from then BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ Convener Atikur Rahman Rumon visited Ritu Porna’s home in a remote hilly area of Rangamati. They went there to inquire about the condition of her mother, who was suffering from cancer, and also provided financial assistance for her treatment.
