Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of National Professor and valiant freedom fighter Dr Anisuzzaman.
In a condolence message, she recalled with deep respect the outstanding contributions of Prof Anisuzzaman in the field of education.
“I was a student of Sir’s tutorial group,” said Sheikh Hasina adding that the death of the wise person is an irreparable loss to the country.
The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Dr Anisuzzaman died of old age complications at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. He was 83.
He was admitted to the Universal Cardiac Hospital in the city on April 29 with various health complications. As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on May 2.
On May 10, Prof Dr Anisuzzaman was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) from Universal Cardiac Hospital after deterioration of his health condition.
Dr Anisuzzaman is a writer and Emeritus Professor of Bangla language and literature department at Dhaka University.
