Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mizanur Rahman Sinha, former state minister for health and convener of Munshiganj BNP. In a condolence message, the premier stated that Sinha’s contributions to the political and health sectors of the country will be remembered. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and extended heartfelt sympathy to Sinha’s bereaved family, relatives, and well-wishers. The message was shared by PM’s Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly with BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sinha passed away at a Singapore hospital in the early hours of today at the age of 82. He had been receiving treatment at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore for an extended period. His daughter, Tasnim Sinha, confirmed the news of his passing on social media, stating that he breathed his last at approximately 2.47 am today.
Sinha, a former treasurer of the BNP central committee, had a significant political career. He contested the seventh and eighth general elections in 1996 and 2001, respectively, from Munshiganj-2 as a BNP candidate and was elected to parliament. He was most recently appointed as the convener of the district BNP committee. Although initially nominated by BNP for the 13th parliamentary elections, his nomination was later changed due to his hospitalization.
Beyond politics, Sinha was actively involved in local social development and charitable activities. He served as the managing director of The ACME Laboratories Ltd., a leading pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. Sinha’s career began at Habib Bank Ltd in 1964, where he held various key roles before joining ACME in 1976 to continue his father’s legacy. By 1981, he had become the managing director, and his 49 years of experience and leadership significantly contributed to ACME’s prominence in the pharmaceutical industry.
