Dhaka: Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin today stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remains dedicated to ensuring students’ good health and quality education.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin made this declaration during a meeting with a delegation led by Bangladesh Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP), Simone Parchment, at the Prime Minister’s Office. The adviser emphasized the Prime Minister’s long-standing focus on the ‘Mid Day Meal’ programme, highlighting its inclusion in election manifestos and speeches, as it underscores the importance of nutritious food for the mental and physical development of children.
Amin recalled that the initiative was originally started by Begum Khaleda Zia during her tenure as the head of government. The meeting included in-depth discussions about the Mid Day Meal programme implemented by the Government of Bangladesh, reflecting on ways to improve the provision of quality and nutritious food for students across the nation.
The WFP representatives contributed valuable suggestions based on their experiences, focusing on enhancing the transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of the programme. Discussions also centered on strengthening monitoring and supervision processes and making the upazila-level committees more proactive and efficient.
The delegation included Deputy Head of Programme Marybeth Black, Head of Supply Chain Catherine Claire, Head of School Feeding Ema Clara Lefu, and Senior Partnership Advisor Md. Mohsin, all of whom participated in the exchange of views to advance the programme’s objectives.
