Dhaka: A meeting on the Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) Embankment was held today with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair to find solutions to the long-standing water-logging problem in the embankment area. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon, as stated by Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Md Suzauddhowla (Sujon Mahmud).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting discussed in detail the water-logging issues in the DND embankment area and explored potential solutions. Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee noted that despite the completion of a project in 2024 initiated in 2016 to tackle the issue, residents have not yet experienced the anticipated relief.
The minister further announced that the project, completed by the Ministry of Water Resources, is set to be handed over to the city corporation within the next two weeks. A new proposal has been suggested to enhance the drainage system, including an additional 30 kilometers of drainage infrastructure, which has been presented to the Prime Minister.
State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam, and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Engineer Md Reazul Islam were also present at the meeting.
