Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul stated that individuals resort to seeking medical treatment abroad when they feel helpless. He made these remarks during the annual general meeting of the newly elected executive committee of the Bangladesh Private Hospital, Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association at the Shaheed Abu Sayed International Convention Center.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Nazrul addressed the owners of private medical institutions, highlighting the significant potential within the country’s medical sector. He pointed out that there is an estimated market value of four to five billion dollars in the sector. Dr. Nazrul challenged the owners, questioning why people still opt to travel abroad for medical treatment, even when they haven’t visited the capital, Dhaka, but choose destinations like India and Bangkok instead.

Dr. Nazrul urged the medical community to prevent this trend of seeking treatment abroad by improving local services. He emphasized that retaining this market within Bangladesh would be advantageous not only for the healthcare providers but also for the country’s economy. He praised the capabilities of Bangladeshi physicians, noting their proven competence during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He expressed confidence in the local medical professionals, stating that people no longer desire to travel to India or Thailand for treatment as the local healthcare system demonstrated its capability and commitment during the pandemic, with many healthcare workers making significant sacrifices.
