Narayanganj: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today emphasized the necessity for people to assert their own rights and be entrusted with the full guardianship of their voting rights to ensure a truly democratic process. He urged attendees at an election rally in Kanchpur to actively participate in the upcoming elections by being present at polling centers with the same enthusiasm as shown during the rally.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman highlighted that for the past 15-16 years, elections have been mere formalities, depriving people of their voting rights. He warned of renewed conspiracies and called for unity to counter these, urging citizens to exercise their right to vote on February 12. He expressed confidence in success if the people support the BNP.
On law and order, the BNP Chairman promised strict measures to improve conditions in Narayanganj if elected, emphasizing action based on the country’s laws, irrespective of party affiliations. He lamented the poor law and order situation over the past years, affecting both ordinary citizens and political figures.
Tarique Rahman also identified corruption and drug abuse as critical issues, pledging to eradicate them. He mentioned specific locations in Narayanganj city notorious for drug trade and assured steps to control these activities.
He urged women to play a significant role in BNP’s electoral success, recalling Khaleda Zia’s initiatives in promoting free education for working-class children, especially girls. He announced plans for a ‘Family Card’ to provide monthly cash or food assistance to working-class families.
Regarding employment, the BNP Chairman promised to create job opportunities for youth both domestically and internationally through professional and language training. He also mentioned plans to provide honorariums and training for religious leaders to enhance their incomes.
Tarique Rahman committed to starting canal excavation programs nationwide, including in Narayanganj, to address waterlogging and protect water bodies from floods. The rally was chaired by Narayanganj District BNP Convenor Professor Mamun Mahmud and moderated by Joint Convenor Mashukul Islam Rajib, with several BNP candidates and officials speaking at the event.
