Mymensingh: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today emphasized the importance of public participation in the upcoming referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, highlighting it as critical for preventing the recurrence of fascism in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir addressed these concerns while speaking as a special guest at a divisional view-exchange meeting held at the Advocate Tareq Memorial Auditorium in Mymensingh. The meeting focused on campaigning for the referendum and motivating voters. Professor Ali Riaz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, served as the chief guest, while Farah Shammi, Divisional Commissioner of Mymensingh, chaired the event.
Bashir pointed out that the current interim government is organizing a referendum aimed at amending the Constitution for state reform. He criticized past amendments that were made swiftly without public input, which he claimed led to the entrenchment of fascism in the country. He asserted that broad citizen participation in the referendum is necessary to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The Adviser also addressed the misinformation surrounding the upcoming election, urging the public not to be swayed by propaganda.
Other notable speakers at the event included Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser; Professor Dr. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University; and Mohammad Ataul Kibria, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Mymensingh Range. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police from the Mymensingh Division, and various district-level government officials and employees.
