Rajshahi: Citizen's Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh convener Debapriya Bhattacharya stated at a programme today that the forthcoming parliamentary election has become a mandatory issue at present. He emphasized the necessity of incorporating reform promises into the political parties' election manifestos to ensure continuity under the new government.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bhattacharya's remarks were made in response to journalists' questions after his address at a 'Pre-election regional consultation meeting' organized by the Citizen's Platform at Brac Learning Centre in Rajshahi. The event also featured speeches by CPD Executive Director Dr Mustafizur Rahman and Pro-vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Farid Uddin Khan.
The Citizen's Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh is currently involved in a pre-election initiative aimed at developing a comprehensive "Citizen's Manifesto". Bhattacharya mentioned that they plan to prepare this manifesto by gathering opinions from people across different regions in the country.
Earlier, during the open discussion session of the consultation meeting, various leaders and representatives from political parties, professional and social-cultural organizations, as well as media personalities and platforms advocating for human rights, women, and underprivileged groups in Rajshahi, shared their expectations for the upcoming national election. Topics such as security, transparency, accountability, good governance, democracy, reformation, social protection, and political stability were discussed.
