Dhaka:A parliamentary committee has recommended the installation of solar panels at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban complex, along with the introduction of various energy-saving measures to modernize energy management and reduce electricity consumption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these recommendations were made during the second meeting of the committee, which was formed to assess the feasibility of solar panel installation and ensure efficient electricity use at the Parliament complex. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP.
The meeting, attended by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit and several lawmakers, included a three-dimensional (3D) presentation on the proposed solar panel installation. Discussions covered the overall electricity demand of the Parliament Secretariat, the central air-conditioning system's operational capacity, and potential sites for solar panel installation.
The committee emphasized determining the appropriate capacity for the solar power system in line with electricity demand and technical capacity and recommended raising public awareness to prevent electricity wastage. They also suggested installing sensor-based lighting, ensuring accountability among officials, and using sub-meters or prepaid meters for proper electricity bill collection.
Additionally, the committee recommended energy-efficient operation of the Parliament mosque's air-conditioning system and decided to verify the allocation documents for a playground designated for persons with disabilities. A Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the solar power system is to be prepared by the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited and discussed at the next meeting.
