Rajshahi: The district administration has undertaken various programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh 1433, the first day of the Bengali New Year which falls on April 14, while it has drawn near to the door. In the bond of unity in diversity, like the rest of the country, the day will be celebrated in Rajshahi with the participation of all in a proper, beautiful, grand and joyous environment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an art camp will be held on Chaitra 30, at 9:00 AM, at Rajshahi Shimla Park. This event is organized by the District Shilpakala Academy and the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS). On Pahela Baishakh, starting at 7:00 AM, a Baishakhi Shobhajatra (New Year procession) will take place from Rajshahi Botanical Garden and Zoo to Shishu Academy. The national anthem and the song 'Esho He Baishakh' will be performed at Shishu Academy, followed by a discussion meeting and cultural programme at the same venue.
A two-day New Year Fair will be held at the Shishu Academy premises on the first and second days of Baishakh. The fair will feature Gambhira, Alkap, and dance performances by ethnic minority groups, along with puppet shows on the first day. On the second day, baul and folk songs, as well as Jatra Pala (traditional folk theater), will be staged. Essay and art competitions will also take place at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
Traditional foods like khoi, muri, murki, and batasa will be available at Rajshahi Central Jail, hospitals, Shishu Paribar, and Shishu Sadan on Pahela Baishakh. Additionally, cultural programmes with children from Shishu Paribar and performances by inmates will be organized. Educational institutions will celebrate Bangla New Year under their own management at convenient times.
On the occasion of the day, Varendra Research Museum and Rajshahi Botanical Garden and Zoo will offer free admission all day for children, adolescents, students, persons with disabilities, and children with special needs.
